Saw the recommendation in Essex Life so wanted to see it for myself. 1. Afternoon Tea was excellent value for money. 2. Choice of teas, cakes and sandwiches. 3. Quaint atmosphere (and beautiful village). 4. Friendly, courteous service. 5. Yummy food, good portion sizes.
  • Keith Hodgston, Harlow
Excellent service, superb home made cakes and tea blend! A great facility in a beautiful village.
  • D. Hemingway - Rice, Wickham
Wonderful friendly service. Just what a tearoom should be like. Thank you all. Best tea and cake too!
  • Sima, Harrow, Middlesex
Excellent friendly service. Lovely range of teas and the fruit scone with clotted cream and jam impeccable! Ambience of tea room very appropriate for location of shop.
  • Jonathan Diamond, Nr Bishops Stortford
Simple - the best tea shop/room in the area and possibly the UK. Traditional, good service. Excellent range of loose leaf teas (not horrible tea bags) and great but simple food. Nothing seems to be brought in. If it were a restaurant it would have a Michelin Star.
  • Heather Barnes, Thaxted
Poppy's is at the heart of the community and provides a vital treat to all of us residents. Poppy's has also become a shining example of what a "cream tea" should be eg a great selection of leaf teas and full fat clotted cream.
  • Alistair Grant, Thaxted
The tea room is set in a beautiful old English house which transports you straight into the past. The staff are extremely well trained, extremely polite and pleasant. I try to visit once a fortnight because they are the only tea room with the most delicious crumpets, scones and cakes. They share the same love of quality for food and tea as I do.
  • Lauren Hill, Thaxted
Poppy's is a so welcoming to both locals and visitors and always has a wide range of scones handmade cakes and teas. Poppy's is always happy to make a cake for your birthday etc to take home. It is quintesentially British, keeping the British theme alive. All the staff area always happy and even remember the locals names and favourites!

  • Mrs S Wilmer, Great Bardfield
Everything about this tea room reminds me of why I love the counyryside in England. A very warm welcome in the winter, crumpets, hot soup, scones and delicious cakes and in the summer the very best cream teas. Lovely atmosphere - very friendly and helpful staff and lovely and clean. One of the very best!

  • Mr N Watson, Great Dunmow
We are always asured of a warm welcome at Poppy's Tearoom. The menu is very varied; there are several diffent teas to choose from and there is always someone on hand to help make a choice, should help be required. The quality of the food is first class and a spcial request will always be accommodated wherever possible. Unlike some tearooms, the music at Poppy's is tasteful and never intrusive, which makes for a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. We would rather go to Poppy's than any other tearoom in the area.

A delightful tea room situated in a wonderful location in Thaxted. The sandwiches and cakes are all homemade and taste wonderful. The ambience is a typical tea shop - wonderful. The staff are always pleasant and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Overall a fantastic experience, a tea room to die for.
  • Mrs Bradley-Heudeburck, Brentwood
This is an excellent tea shop, always a really friendly greeting. Sandwiches are excellent as are the tea and coffees. Cakes are superb, especially the luscious lemon cake!

  • Michael Jordon - Dereham, Norfolk
I just came across Poppy's in 2008 and have been visiting ever since. Living in Norfolk means I can't visit as much as I'd like, but I do always detour through Thaxted when heading South. The food is lovely, the tea is delicious and the welcome is always warm. I am forever recommending Poppy's to friends so I hope they don't miss out and go somewhere else. So long as Poppy's is open, I shall be coming back. In all honesty, it is the best tea shop I've ever been in, so I have no qualms in nominating it for an award.
  • C & E Rawlings, Epping
It is simply the best in Essex. Food is always delicious. The staff are outstandingly helpful, polite and with perfect manners.
  • Deborah Lister
Poppy's is a calm and peaceful haven to enjoy a proper English tea. The tea room is delightfully old english without being twee. The staff are polite and always willing to accommodate your wishes. Tea here is an experience I can recommend to anyone. Always a treat!
  • Sonya Walker
Loveliest staff that we have met in all the tea rooms we have visited around the country. Best pot of tea and wonderful sandwiches. We always make sure we go back and visit Thaxted especially to eat in the lovely Poppy's Tea Room. It's the best.
  • Mary Colton, Saffron Walden
A charming tea room in a historical small town. Specialist teas and coffee with cakes and light meals. Owned by a family with a long history in the tea trade. Exceptionally friendly and obliging service. Very popular with locals and visitors.
  • William Atkinson
In a lovely setting, this tea room offers all that is classical and impressive; a superb range of teas, delicious food, friendly personal service and delightfully appropriate music. It is conpletely free from the somewhat annoying "tweeness" of some tea rooms. We come some distance for this place - and we are not the only ones!
  • Alison Atkinson
Poppy's is what a tea room should be! Located in beautiful historic thaxted; run by a super friendly and welcoming proprietress and staff. The range of teas is extensive, the home baking is delicious. The ambience is relaxed. There is good music playing, though not so intrusively as to disturb conversation or thought. We go there regularly on our day off for a perfect, relaxing cuppa of Poppy's signature blend and whatever tempting delights are on offer that day.
  • James Ager
Poppy's Tea Room is easy to find. Thaxted Guildhall then just behind. Poppy's is the best. Better than all the rest. For coffee or tea. It’s the place to be. Scones or cake. Don’t worry its all home bake. The sandwiches and cakes are very yummy. They never give you a dodgy tummy. The fruit cake is full of fruit. You get local dairy ice cream to boot. the waitresses always give super service with a smile. Which helps to make the visit even more worthwhile. So if you're out and about, go to poppys for a great day out.
  • Hannah Farnworth, Welwyn Garden City
Beautiful home made cakes and scones in a wonderful setting. Very impressed by the décor and cleanliness, particularly the child's booster seat, which was immaculate. Also loved the ambient music - 1940s/jass, soft and unobtrusive, really sets the tone. A lovely teashop experience.
